Singular XQ Year-End Newsletter – December 2023
Dear Singular XQ Community,
As we wrap up 2023, I want to take a moment to reflect on our journey since April, when we boldly transitioned from a thriving consultancy to a purpose-driven nonprofit. It’s been a year of immense growth, learning, and most importantly, impact. We made a tough, yet vital choice to adhere to our core values, even at the cost of financial gain. We made a few huge mistakes, and some of us burned out a little. Some of us burned out a lot. But the results? They’re nothing short of inspiring.
Our Year of Transformation and Achievement:
- Successful Kickoff: We began our nonprofit mission with a clear vision and unyielding passion.
- Engaging Knowledge Capital: Our company newsletters and podcasts have attracted 3K subscribers across all channels, with a remarkable 30% engagement rate.
- Podcast Expansion: Our podcast audience grew by 117%, reaching listeners in 23 countries, 15 countries that download consistently and frequently.
- Impactful Live Events: We hosted events on AI’s future in research and design, and featured tech innovators like Gene Kim and Don Norman.
- Beneficial Partnerships: We’ve provided premium research to three beneficiary partnerships, increasing our total to five.
- Mentorship Milestone: 520 new hours of mentorship and coaching were offered, totaling 2K hours for underrepresented tech communities.
- Support for Technologists: We’ve extended healthcare, financial, and well-being support to underestimated populations in technology. Approaching 2k hours total since we started, and 524 hours just in these last 9 months.
- Open Source Initiatives: The launch of our open source code repositories marks a significant step towards collaborative innovation.
- Exclusive Community Building: Our founding member community on Discord has become a hub for exchange and development.
- Pioneering Research: We’ve produced groundbreaking research in multiple fields, set to be published on our new website in Q1.
- University Collaboration Success: Our partnership with a major Toronto university has unlocked $8M in funds for first-generation and lower socioeconomic status students.
- Innovations in the Arts: Our initiatives have introduced cutting-edge tech solutions for IP protection, enhancing global reach for art students.
- Rebranding with Purpose: Our first gentle rebrand, led by Jarvis Moore, reflects our evolving identity and mission.
- Creative Partnerships: Collaborating with Cornell’s Studio Design Lab, we’re crafting a digital comic book detailing the history of Open Source and Digital Commons.
- Blockchain for Good: We’re developing a blockchain solution for philanthropic giving, augmented by a gaming approach.
- Strategic Foresight with NYU Stern: Our foresight map, created with NYU Stern Students and Future Today Institute, is setting the stage for future innovations.
- Volunteer Team Growth: Our volunteer team is stronger than ever, with efficient workflows in place.
- Fundraising Success: We raised over $15K in our first year, a testament to the trust and belief in our mission.
As Margaret Mead wisely said, paraphrasing to fit our motto, the only thing that can change the world is curious people who care.
That’s you. That’s us. Together, we are not just envisioning a better future; we are actively building it.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey. Here’s to many more years of innovation, impact, and changing the world for the better.
We are all settled in for a warm winter’s nap. We look forward to greeting you again, bright-eyed, clear headed, and with a pragmatic but optimistic vision of our tech powered, equity-driven futures. See you next year!
Warm regards,
JP
